SARASOTA—The Orioles cut nine players from their training camp roster on Monday. Two pitchers new to the 40-man roster — left-hander Luis González and right-hander Kade Strowd — were optioned to minor league camp.
The Orioles also reassigned left-hander Raul Alcantara, right-handers Dylan Coleman, Rodolfo Martinez, catcher David Bañuelos, outfielders Jordyn Adams and Franklin Barreto, and infielder/outfielder Terrin Vavra to minor league camp.
González, Strowd and Brandon Young were added to the 40-man roster in November, and all have been optioned to minor league camp.
González had a 4.50 ERA in four appearances. Strowd didn’t allow a run in 3 1/3 innings.
Alcantara pitched an inning for the Orioles’ split-squad team against Philadelphia in Clearwater on Sunday, allowing four runs, his only action of camp. Martinez made an early impression in camp but allowed nine runs on five hits in 3 2/3 innings and six walks for a 22.09 ERA.
Coleman allowed two runs on four hits in five games, walking four and striking out four.
Bañuelos was 1-for-11 (.091). Adams was 2-for-11 (.182) with four RBIs. Barreto was hitless in nine at-bats and Vavra, who played 67 games for the Orioles in 2022 and 2023 was 3-for-17 (.176).
The Orioles have 48 players left on their spring training roster. Twelve are non-roster invitees.
