One year ago today, the Orioles announced they had dealt two international bonus slots to the Houston Astros for a Low-A left-hander named Chris Lee. I don’t think anyone thought much of the deal at the time.
Since then, Lee has posted a 2.91 ERA over 151 2/3 innings between High-A Frederick and Double-A Bowie. He’s far from overpowering; Lee has struck out just 87 batters over those 151+ innings. But he’s left handed, he’s 23 years old, and he’s recorded a 2.41 ERA for Bowie to start 2016. Add it all up, and you’ve certainly got one of the top, two-to-three pitching prospects in the O’s minor leagues.
In this week’s “Minor League Podcast,” host Adam Pohl sits down with Lee to chat about his time with the Orioles organization, spike in velocity since being acquired, and his game plan for inducing ground balls.
Adam also discusses the promotion of outfielder Mike Yastrzemski to Triple-A Norfolk, and concludes with his weekly assessment of the farm system with our minors expert, Dean Jones Jr.
