New York Yankees’ slugger Mark Teixeira returns to his hometown of Baltimore this weekend in a strange role: He’s a sub-.200 hitter on a struggling offense. He has no homers in more than seven weeks and just three on the season.
Teixeira is on the doorstep of 400 career homers at 397, but he hasn’t gone deep since the Yankees’ seventh game of the season, on April 13 at Toronto.
So what’s going on with the 36-year-old, pending free agent? For that matter, what’s going on with these Yankees, a club with the second highest payroll in baseball and the lowest collective batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage in the American League?
Mark Feinsand, the excellent Yankees’ beatwriter for the New York Daily News, joins me on “Around The Beat” this week to talk about all things Yankees, including Teixeira, the pride of Severna Park.
We’ll preview this weekend’s series against the Yankees at Camden Yards and hear Feinsand’s thoughts on New York’s rotation, on which stars could be on the trade block in July and on how he expects the AL East to shake out.
So give it a listen.
