Mullins injures hamstring at Double-A Bowie

Bowie center fielder Cedric Mullins, who has emerged as one of the organization’s top prospects, has strained his left hamstring and will be placed on the disabled list today.

The injury is only expected to cost Mullins about two weeks, according to player development director Brian Graham. It occurred while the center fielder was running to first base Thursday in a 12-2 loss to Richmond.

So far this season, the 22-year-old Mullins was hitting .367 with a .406 on-base percentage, four homers and three stolen bases. He was named the Eastern League’s Player of the Week for last week.

After tearing up Low-A Delmarva last year and having an impressive spring, the Orioles had Mullins jump over High-A and begin in Bowie. He homered in his first at-bat for the Baysox and has played well there this month.

  • Good grief, Dan. The minute he does a BB podcast with you guys, this happens. [Oriole prospects, you have hereby been forewarned.]

  • Horrible news. Thought he will be the next really good young position player & a core for the future. Hope the hamstring does not become chronic.
