The high school regular season has just about wrapped up. Here’s what we know as the playoffs loom.

Champions:

Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference, Chesapeake Division: Patterson Mill

Carroll County Athletic League: Century

Anne Arundel County: Severna Park has clinched a spot in Tuesday’s county championship game. The Falcons will face either Chesapeake or Arundel at Joe Cannon Stadium.

Howard County: Marriotts Ridge clinches the county title with a win over Hammond this afternoon.

MIAA: Calvert Hall has earned the top seed in the “A Conference” tournament.

THIS WEEK’S ‘PREP BALLPLAYER’ FINALISTS

Garrett Matheny, Sr., INF, Calvert Hall
Matheny was a major contributor in the Cardinals’ three wins this past week. The senior recorded eight hits – five singles, a double, a triple and a home run – and had seven RBIs. He also scored five runs and stole four bases – one being a straight steal of home.

Kody Milton, Jr., RHP/INF, Severna Park
Four games weren’t an issue for Milton and the Falcons. The junior belted two, two-run homers to open the week against Old Mill in an 8-6 win and added another the next day against Northeast. He recorded a combined six RBIs and scored three runs in those three at-bats. On Wednesday, the right-hander pitched a scoreless seventh and scored a run against Chesapeake to clinch the 3-2 victory. Milton’s week ended Thursday against North County, when he knocked in a run in an 8-5 win.

Jarrett Schneider, Sr., RHP/INF, Harford Tech
Schneider threw a gem Tuesday against Joppatowne. The senior struck out seven and allowed two hits in five shutout innings. In that game, he recorded a base hit, a stolen base and two RBIs. The right-hander then registered three hits – one being a double – three RBIs and a run scored in a 10-8 win over Perryville the next day. Schneider capped off the week with two hits, one RBI and a run against Bo Manor on Thursday.

Others considered (listed alphabetically): Nick Brown, Archbishop Curley; Jordan Geber, Archbishop Spalding; Austin Koehn, Patterson Mill; Jordan Mathis, Severn; Joe Seidler, Chesapeake; Matt Sowinski, Annapolis Area Christian.

In case you’re visiting our ‘Prep Ballplayer’ voting for the first time, here’s how things work: Three candidates are revealed each Monday. You get to vote – early and often – for the finalist you believe should be our winner. Voting ends every Thursday night and the winner is announced each Friday.

If you’re interested in submitting candidates for our consideration, please send the player’s name, key statistics from the previous week and your contact information to sean@baltimorebaseball.com.
