Calvert Hall College High School infielder Garrett Matheny had a big week to help lead his team to the top seed in the MIAA “A” Conference.

The senior collected eight hits in three games — a homer, a triple, a double and five singles — and stole four bases, including a straight steal of home. To cap off those performances, he was named BaltimoreBaseball.com’s “Prep Ballplayer of the Week.”

Matheny garnered an overwhelming 93 percent of the vote to beat two other outstanding candidates: Kody Milton of Severna Park and Jarrett Schneider of Harford Tech.

We’ll have three new candidates Monday as the high school regular season heads to the postseason. Vote – early and often – through Thursday night. The winner is announced every Friday.
