Nick Brown, the senior infielder/outfielder for Archbishop Curley, had a pretty strong week. His team went 5-0 against some tough competition while Brown drove in 12 runs, including seven in one game.
That performance landed him a spot in our “Prep Ballplayer of the Week” vote along with Severna Park’s Cameron Clark, who also had a seven-RBI game, and Reservoir’s Cameron Hyder, who reached base nine times in three games, all wins.
All three were worthy candidates, but Brown received the most on-line support – the Curley faithful took the charge “vote early and often” seriously – with roughly 13,700 votes or 59 percent of the weekly tally.
Hyder was second and Clark third in a poll that generated more than 23,000 votes. That’s pretty darn active for Week 1.
We’ll have three new candidates and bios next Monday, and voting again will run until late Thursday night with the results announced Friday.
Three quick things to remember about our ‘Prep Ballplayer’ feature.
The primary purpose is to give a little recognition to a trio of players that stood out among hundreds of performances in the Baltimore area in any given week. The vote is more of a fun, fan interaction that pits schools against each other; winning or losing shouldn’t take away from the accomplishments of those who are named finalists each week. Making it to the final three is the tough part, here.
Secondly, if you are voting and don’t immediately see the numbers change for your candidate – especially if you are voting multiple times – be patient. Sometimes it takes a while for the software to catch up with the votes. But all votes are being registered.
Lastly, if you want to nominate a candidate for ‘Prep Ballplayer’ please contact Sean Naylor at Sean@baltimorebaseball.com by Sunday evening with the candidate’s name, school and pertinent stats for the week. And if you have any further questions about the feature don’t hesitate to contact us anytime.
