Howard High’s Delgado captures this week’s ‘Prep Ballplayer’ honor

We had an interesting vote this week for our ‘Prep Ballplayer’ award.

For the first time in recent memory, all three candidates led at one point during the week. That probably speaks to how even the three outstanding performances were. All three excelled on the mound and two helped their causes at the plate.

Ultimately, though, Howard junior right-hander Gabe Delgado outpaced the competition, receiving 54 percent of nearly 9,000 votes cast. Delgado’s 12-strikeout performance in a five-inning game was that impressive.

The other two finalists, Severna Park senior Cameron Clark (32 percent) and Archbishop Curley senior Paul Nixon (14 percent), also turned in strong performances.

We’ll have three new standouts to highlight on Monday afternoon.

Then you’ll get to vote – early and often – for the finalist you believe should be our winner. Voting ends every Thursday night and the winner is announced each Friday.

If you’re interested in submitting candidates for our consideration, please send the player’s name, key statistics from the previous week and your contact information by Sunday afternoon to sean@baltimorebaseball.com. We welcome suggestions and your feedback.

    • Looks like Nixon is going to join the powerhouse JuCo squad at Harford Community College initially. Don’t know on Clark.
