The Orioles have begun to remake their coaching staff for the 2020 season. According to an industry source, the Orioles will not be retaining first base coach Arnie Beyeler and assistant hitting coach Howie Clark.

News of the changes was first reported by The Athletic.

Beyeler (pictured above), who also coached the Orioles’ outfielders, is a longtime minor league manager and was Boston’s first base coach from 2013-15.

Clark, who played 21 games for the Orioles in 2002 and 2006, was the only holdover coach from former manager Buck Showalter’s tenure.

He leaves after three seasons. In 2017 and 2018, Clark worked under Scott Coolbaugh, and this past season was an assistant to hitting coach Don Long.

There’s no word on replacements nor or any other changes to manager Brandon Hyde’s staff.

Besides Long, the other coaches are Doug Brocail (pitching), Tim Cossins (major league field coordinator/catching instructor), Jose Flores (third base/infield), Jose Hernandez (major league coach) and John Wasdin (bullpen).

Hernandez and Wasdin were the other staff members who were in the organization before Hyde’s arrival in December 2018.

  • Best of luck to them in their future endeavors. It was always really weird seeing a 50 year old overweight guy wearing Machado's jersey, but I can't hold that against him.

  • Wasdin is now gone. He’s gets rid of coaches very easily but is afraid of letting go of someone who is un coachable in Davis
