Orioles outfielder DJ Stewart had surgery on his right ankle on Thursday. Stewart injured the ankle in a game at Arlington, Texas on June 5 and missed two months of major league time.
The team said Stewart “underwent a successful microfracture procedure on his right ankle.”
The procedure was performed by Dr. Kenneth Jung at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.
The Orioles said Stewart is “expected to return to baseball activity near the end of spring training.”
Stewart, who had a strong May at Triple-A Norfolk, was recalled on May 28 and played in only seven games before the injury, which came when he was clipped by second baseman Hanser Alberto while the two were pursuing a popup that landed in foul ground. Stewart was playing right field.
The 25-year-old outfielder returned to the Orioles on August 6 and hit .238 in 44 games. Stewart hit .238 with a .317 on-base percentage and had a .698 on-base percentage. He had four homers and 15 RBIs.

That would explain his blase' 2019 batting statistics.
I think I have higher hopes for DJ than most on these boards. He really performed amazingly well in AAA last season and I think, with time, he could show his patience / power combo at the major league level. Let's just hope he gets healthy and stays that way for a while.
I would agree. I don’t think his ceiling is as high as Santander, but I could see him being a regular OF with the O’s.
He showed some flashes. Hope he is healthy and earns a spot next season. Does anyone know if Hanser Alberto’s nickname is “Radio” and why?
According to Baseball Prospective he gives play by play while playing in the game.
I wonder if he does that to keep his head in the game, and/or to practice his English.
Fanfest is canceled!?!?
