The Orioles released the names of their initial 44 players on the 60-man summer camp roster on Sunday.
They added right-handed pitcher Cesar Valdez, who was in minor league camp and used as a fill-in during early spring games to the list. The 35-year-old Valdez struck out nine while walking none and gave up two hits in five innings.
Trey Mancini, who is recovering from colon cancer surgery and will not play in 2020, was placed on the 60-day injured list. The Orioles’ 40-man roster is now at 38.
Among the players who were on the 50-man roster when transactions were frozen in late March but not on this roster are: left-hander Bruce Zimmermann, right-hander Evan Phillips. catcher Taylor Davis, infielder Richard Urena, and outfielders Yusniel Diaz and Mason Williams.
David Hess, who was sent to Triple-A Norfolk after the end of camp, was added to the camp roster.
Phillips was rehabbing a sore right elbow when spring training ended. Among those left off the list are: left-handed pitcher Keegan Akin, right-handed pitcher Dean Kremer and infielder/outfielder Ryan Mountcastle, who are expected to see major league action in 2020. Outfielder Cedric Mullins, who was sent down to Norfolk along with Hess and Mountcastle, is also not on the list.
The Orioles might add players, including left-handed pitcher DL Hall, right-handed pitcher Grayson Rodriguez and catcher Adley Rutschman to give them additional work at an alternate site. None is expected to play for the Orioles in scheduled 60-game 2020 season.

They still have 16 slots to fill so it would look like some of the omissions will make it. Assuming Evan Phillips goes on the 45 day IL, here is my guess on the last 16.
Mason Williams
Ryan Mountcastle
Cedric Mullins
Taylor Davis
Dean Kremer
Keegan Akin
Ryan McKenna
Bruce Zimmerman
Yusniel Diaz
Zac Lowther
Michael Bauman
Rylan Bannon
Issac Mattison
2 waiver claims to be named later. Rutschman will probably be included just to have someone to catch all the pitchers. But you’re right, he won’t be playing for the Orioles this year
Someday we need to have a game where Rob Zastryzny faces Mike Yastrzemski.
(Ben sobs softly in the background.)
Mason Williams any day over Dwight Smith Jr. I watched him in spring training . He has a quick bat and can plain out hit. Hope a contender picks him up
Mason Williams probably gets added to the alternate camp. He can help Mountcastle learn to play defense. You wouldn’t want Mountcastle learning defense from Dwight Smith Jr.
Correct but seriously Mason deserves a shot with a good team . Obviously he’s not in this teams present or future plans. He’s a former number draftee destined by the Yankees for stardom . He’s had injuries but he play his butt off for us but this team is not a fit for him they rather go with a loser like Smith jr
Willams was a free agent this winter and re-signed with the Orioles on a minor league contract . For some reason wasn’t able to get a contract with a contender. He’ll probably be added to the roster later
