The Orioles placed right-handed pitcher Dillon Tate on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Sunday, because of a sprained right finger and reinstated right-hander Shawn Armstrong, who had been on the injured list since August 26th because of a sore back.
With José Iglesias’ status questionable because of a bruised left wrist, the Orioles also recalled infielder Ramón Urias from the alternate site at Bowie for infield depth. Urias is in the starting lineup, batting ninth for Tuesday night’s game at Boston. Iglesias was hit by a pitch in Saturday night’s game against Tampa Bay.
“Adding another infielder because Iggy’s wrist is sore,” manager Brandon Hyde said in his video conference call on Tuesday. “Not sure when he’s going to be able to get out there. He feels a lot better today. It’s shown improvement. We’re hoping to get him out there in the next couple of days. We don’t know at this point. Called up Urias as infield depth.”
Tate was 1-1 with a 3.64 ERA in 12 games. He allowed just nine hits in 16 2/3 innings and his WHIP was an outstanding 0.840.
“He had an unfortunate accident where he tripped in his apartment yesterday and landed on his hand,” Hyde said. “He’s going to get further tests on his pinkie.”
Armstrong, who is 2-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 11 games, last pitched on August 22nd against the Red Sox.
Urias is batting 1-for-5 (.200) in five games.
The Orioles had an opening on the 28-man roster after right-handed pitcher Carson Fulmer was claimed on waivers by Pittsburgh on Monday.
For the final trip to Boston and Buffalo, the Orioles have a five-man taxi squad of pitchers David Hess and Branden Kline, catcher Austin Wynns, infielder Andrew Velazquez and outfielder Ryan McKenna.
Zimmermann goes to bullpen: Hyde isn’t sure if Keegan Akin, Tuesday night’s starter, will start Sunday’s final game against Toronto at Buffalo.
“He’ll pitch today, then we’ll go from there,” Hyde said.
As for Bruce Zimmermann, whose debut came in the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader against Tampa Bay, Hyde is putting him in the bullpen for the series at Fenway Park.
“I’ll try and find him a spot where he can get some bulk innings,” Hyde said. “Still a little bit undecided on that last day, we’ll see. Right now, he’s going to be in the bullpen for the Boston series.”

Well we are in our last week of oriole baseball and two thoughts?
1.)Can we compete for an AL east championship in 2021?
2.) what starting players/major-league level players will not, be here in 2021?
1.) No.
2.) Davis (bought out, retired)
Cobb (traded winter meetings)
A couple relief pitchers no one cares about anyway (DFA'd)
To answer your questions
1) highly doubtful
2) trick question. Is Davis a starting player anymore? Or a major league level player? Trying to guess who gets removed from the 40 man roster barring trades
Free agents-LeBlanc, Holoday
Non-tendered-Núñez
DFA/waivers-Eshelman, Wynns, Urias, Velazquez , Hess
Added to the roster-Diaz, Lowther, Baumann, Mattson
Possible adds-Wells, Bannon,Pop
Also predict they pick up Iglesias’s option, but it could go either way
High level defense at SS and a .377 average for 3 mil? Iglesias option is probably the easiest decision Elias has to make.
Only played 23 games at SS. Wasn’t signed for his offense, his defense. I guess they pick up the option, but don’t be shocked if they decline it and try to sign him for less
Ramon Urias ... c'mon man. Well I guess at least it's not Velazquez again ...
I'm sure the O's catchers are glad that Fulmer is gone. Guy threw hard, but had little/no command of his pitches. I always hated catching a pitcher like him back in high school.
Oh no, not this darn Mike Bordick again! Please know that this Bordick sucks as a tv guy! Listening to this guy is sooo boring! Mike is very monotone and sterile with his comments and observations! OMG ....
He’s like listening to an instructional training video? I rather see Dave Johnson as color guy! Where is my Ben, when we need him?
Blame it on Rio II, he definitely needs to go, FA look for a 3rd baseman, then DJ Stewart, definitely not MLB defense tonight...go O’s...
Akin deserves better...go O’s...
What a sh_ _ show! Oh please get better O’s...
