Orioles’ Mullins isn’t voted All-Star Game starter

Orioles centerfielder Cedric Mullins was not voted as a starter for the American League All-Star team. Mullins finished sixth among the nine outfield finalists with 10 percent of the vote.

Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels, Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees and Teoscar Hernandez of the Toronto Blue Jays were voted as starting outfielders.

Trout won’t play in the game on July 13th at Denver’s Coors Field. He’s on the 60-day injured list because of a strained right calf. It’s possible that Mullins could start in his place.

Mullins, who also trailed Minnesota’s Byron Buxton and Houston’s Michael Brantley, is batting .322 with 14 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has a .942 OPS. His 99 hits lead the American League.

Mullins, who abandoned switch-hitting to bat only left-handed this season, also has 15 stolen bases in 19 attempts and has played exceptional defense, including a number of acrobatic catches.

The reserves for the All-Star team will be announced on Sunday.

  • All Star voting is a complete joke. Fan selection is nothing more than ballot stuffing BS, as we said in the old days!

    • I have NEVER understood this vote multiple times concept.
I remember back when ushers passed paper ballots up the rows in the stadium that you punched holes in (hanging chads, anyone?)

While I’m not protesting anything, I just think the ASG has become an out of control social media driven bling fest.

Just the worthless opinion of one curmudgeon.

  • He’s clearly gonna be in the team, j mean, no other Oriole will be named. The only question is will Cash start him in place of Trout? I think there’s a good chance of that.

  • An overlooked aspect to Mullins performance is accepting advice from the hitting coach and perhaps Hyde to abandon switch hitting

  • You are having a great season Cedric keep it up you are one of the bright spots to the Orioles future

  • The picture leading off this article, clearly shows Mullins to be a Pepsi man!

  • Popularity contest? It is and it isn't. If it is how do you justify Teoscar Hernandez? BUT when the dust settles--Mullins will start.

  • Let us not forget that MLB is staging the ASG in Denver, Colorado, to teach the rest of us a civics lesson in how to conduct a free, fair,
    and credible election.
