  • BRR, You neglected to mention the addition of Shaun Anderson, yet another player with a long resume of subpar performances and a long list of former minor league teams. Acquiring yet another serial under-performer is probably not an indication of insanity. I doubt that management is so delusional as to expect sudden bursts of baseball excellence from its growing collection of castoffs from the Island of Broken Toys. It's mainly an ongoing desperation for replacement parts. Oriole fans who want a winning team will just have to wait until 2024.

• Ah, our old friend Alex Cobb. He leaves Bawlamer and learns how to pitch again. Just sayin’.

  • Era about 5.00, averaging less than 5 innings per start- not much different than we are getting with our staff and he pitches with better D behind him.

  • He posted 7 wins over 3 seasons with the O’s. While I realize much of that was due to injuries and bad luck, he’s got 5 wins already this year.
    I get sick of watching pitchers leave here and find notable success elsewhere. It’s a pattern.

  • It’s more a function of playing for a better team than his individual performance

  • He's not exactly an ace, but regardless, he'd be our 2nd best but most reliable starter if still on the team.

    • Are YOU paying him? Who cares what he's being paid? I disagree about him playing 2nd fiddle to Zim ...and besides...where is John Means tonite? Hell, the argument could be made that he'd be our number 1!

      Trading Cobb this offseason was standard textbook tanking M.O. by Elias.

  • Agree, Means IL trip seems to be much longer than 10 days, hard to put someone behind someone who isn’t playing, he went 7.2 innings last night, we need 3-4 guys to go that long...go O’s..

  • My main point is that if you look at his performance to date this season, he is the same pitcher he was for the Os. His record is better because he is playing for a better team.

  • Obviously, playing for a team with better defense behind you and ability to score more runs increases the chance for any pitchers success.
    But beyond that, I wonder what else is different (better?)
    about other teams.
    Less tangible things like conditioning programs, coaching staff, training facilities, execution of fundamentals, pitching philosophy, managerial decisions, et al.

• I’m not a gambling man but if I were I’d have put money on Cobb tonite. Somehow you just knew he was gonna be the Cobb that pitched for the Rays and not the Cobb that pitched for the O’s when he took the mound tonite. I haven’t heard any updates on Means lately. Anyone know if he’s still on schedule to come back after All Star break?

• Why would the Orioles pay Alex Cobb $5M a year? What does it mean, to be in a rebuild? Rebuild? It means it would be STUPID to try to replace every player we get to hold us over with an expensive best guy available.
  Stevie Wilkerson has much value. If Baltimore ever gets back to World Series form, Wilkerson likely will not be part of it as a player, but during this rebuild process, is a great guy to have available.
