BALTIMORE—By 4 p.m. on Friday, the Orioles will know who’s coming and going. The trade deadline is the talk of baseball, but the chatter hasn’t reached the desk of manager Brandon Hyde.
“I actually haven’t heard anybody talk about it up to this point,” Hyde said. “Everybody’s aware. It’s everywhere you look right now. It’s on TV. I haven’t heard any of our players. Maybe they’re not doing it around me. I haven’t heard any conversations about guys getting moved.
“You hear conversations when a trade happens, but nothing about our guys.”
Baumann among those promoted: Mike Baumann, who threw six scoreless innings for Double-A Bowie on Friday night, was promoted from the Baysox to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Joining Bauman with the Tides are right-handers David Lebron and Ofelky Peralta and left-hander Nick Vespi.
“It’s nice to see him have a good outing in his last start and be on the move,” Hyde said of Baumann.
Right-handers Diógenes Almengo and Tyler Joyner were returned to Bowie from Norfolk.
Right-hander Logan Gillaspie and left-hander Drew Rom join Bowie from High-A Aberdeen. Right-hander Luis Perez goes from Low-A Delmarva to the Baysox.
Right-hander Brandon Young and infielder Andrew Martinez go from Delmarva to Aberdeen while right-hander Jean Pinto was promoted form the Florida Complex League Orioles to the Shorebirds. Infielders Willy Yahn and outfielder Trevor Kehe move to Delmarva from Aberdeen.
Ty Blach, the left-hander who went 1-3 with an 11.32 ERA in five starts for the Orioles in 2019 and underwent Tommy John surgery a year ago, threw a scoreless inning for the Florida Complex League Orioles Orange team on Tuesday. Blach was re-signed by the Orioles on March 22.
Shortstop Richie Martin walked and struck out in two at-bats, scored two runs and stole two bases for the FLC Orioles Orange team.
Left-hander Bruce Zimmermann pitched a scoreless inning, allowing one hit for the FCL Orioles Black team in a suspended game on Monday.
Adley Rutschman was named the Double-A Northeast Player of the Week for the week of July 19-25. Rutschman hit .409 (9-for-22) with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 7 walks.
Waiting on Akin, Santander: Hyde doesn’t know the plans for left-handed pitcher Keegan Akin and outfielder Anthony Santander, who were placed on the Covid-19 injured list on July 21st.
“Hopefully, in the next couple of days. It’s up to MLB at this point,” Hyde said.

Hopefully, not to quiet on the trade front. If Elias hits on these trades with a high return that will help in the rebuild. He has to hit on these trades. If they don't get the high return they seem to be asking for and should be asking, then don't make the trade. For any trades involving Means, Fry, Scott, Sulser and Tate, the Orioles have the leverage (YRS Team Control). Even in a Mancini trade they have the leverage (Not a Rental, Fan Fav.). I think in Baumann the Orioles have something. A possible No. 3 Starter or as Baseball America has stated a possible closer. It will be fun see what he does at Norfolk.
Really hope that we don't see a Mancini trade ... but based on the organization's track record in recent years, I fear the impetus for a trade may be a salary dump, since Mancini's salary is $4.75 million, far more than any other player on the active roster.
At least 2 will be traded. Let's just hope they have not seen Fry in the 9th inning!!
Can't deny TANK!!!! any longer, bringing this guy in in a relatively close game? 100% TANK!
Buzz....I'm the biggest whiner on this site regarding the Mike Elias tank job, but to say that Hyde is throwing games is just plain silly.
The coaches and players simply don't tank .. they want to win more than you and I want them to. Tanking is the act of putting the team together ... or NOT putting the team together as it were.
What happens as far as roster space when these guys get promoted I only saw 2 names going down. Any releases?
Elias has shown a propensity to bring in talent in trades. Any trades will probably be good. Let’s see what happens… only few more days.
A couple of names lower down that I wasn't familiar with. Norfolk has a taxi squad and currently has 32 players.
Taxi squad, got it!
Lot's transactions this week.. some guys moving to Norfolk should mean that there will some players ready for a move to Baltimore later this Summer.
If you look at the Orioles Top 30 Prospects you see that they have some strong players in the Top 10 (with the notable exception of Yusniel Diaz...) however, things thin down quickly after that grouping..

Things will get a helluva lot better after this trading period, the upcoming International Signing Period and next year's Amateur Draft.
Hang-in Orioles faithful!
Couldn't have said it better BC. No Coke... Mt. Dew
