Orioles claim left-handed reliever Cionel Pérez on waivers

• The scene is 2025, post season. Mike Elias is at the podium for a press conference. He proceeds to announce that Ashley Rutschman will be traded for six minor league pitchers, all with ERAs over 6.00. When asked why Elias responds that as Rutschman is arbitration eligible, they will actually have to part with a little money to sign him, which Elias explains,they won’t do because the team is not competitive because it has no pitching. When asked why this is Elias asks for the next question. Orioles fans should be rebelling at taking a bite of the crap sandwich that Elias and ownership try to feed them.

• Another "STEAL" off the waiver wire (list of untradeables), How does he do it? Elias is amazing and with his "talent" should really go to a team that needs his "expertese,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,PLEASE! I'm sure there are several people on here that will help him pack,

• You guys can scoff all you want at our newest waiver wire wonder, Perez. But his acquisition marks a significant step up in the talent recently added to the team. Elias's three previous additions leave something to be desired in terms of their records. Our newest shortstop (Fox) has zero MLB experience. Rico Garcia has one win in the majors, an ERA above 7., and is recovering from T.J. surgery. Bryan Baker has pitched exactly ONE inning in the majors. Perez has an MLB ERA above 6 and was waived. However, his TWO wins are infinitely more than Baker's and TWICE as many as Garcia. Statisticians call this an upward trajectory. Still, the brutally unimpressive records of these four players does raise concerns about Elias's timetable and ability to make the Orioles competitive. There doesn't seem to be a middle ground here. On the one hand, he might be a super smart talent evaluator operating at such a high level that ordinary people cannot appreciate his strategy. OR, he may be a bumbling sham who does not know what the hell he is doing--unless his goals are driving O's fans to despair and seeking to set records for team losses in a season and for low team payroll. In deference to those who still adore Elias, I suggest we withhold final judgment until at least 2025 when the reinvigorated farm system should begin to produce a cadre of solid major leaguers. Hopefully, we all will still be alive then and mentally competent to make the judgment.

• What does Mike see in Perez that the Reds don’t?

  • Actual progress must start in 2022. Playing for a future that never arrives is not going to cut it.

    • Progress should have started last year. Mind you that progress doesn't mean contention ... it could be defined here as 1 STINKING MORE WIN than last year.

      This is much too much to ask from Tank Elias.

• Interesting with every passing year of this rebuild we all keep moving the goal posts on when Elias will finally field a competitive team.

• It looks as if The O's do not want to be competative this or any other year as long as Elias is running things simply because he has no idea how to run things, The "Brothers" got suckered into believing he had anything to do with the Astros winning the WS. As everyone can plainly see by this time, he could not have contributed anything to the winning. All he is interested in is not spending money. The empty seats will again prove this guy's worth. Maybe the Angelos' will wise up but I doubt it.
