Orioles name Britton Norfolk manager; Moore moves to Bowie; Mercado, Alou go to Aberdeen, Delmarva

Buck Britton, who managed many of the Orioles’ top prospects at Double-A Bowie the last two seasons, will move up to Triple-A as the manager of the Norfolk Tides, the team announced on Wednesday.

Britton, who played seven seasons in the Orioles’ organization, was Low-A Delmarva’s manager in 2018.

Kyle Moore, who managed High-A Aberdeen last season after managing Delmarva in 2019, will move up to Bowie. Moore also managed the IronBirds when they were a short-season affiliate in 2017 and 2018.

Roberto Mercado, who was the baseball coach at New Britain, Connecticut High School, will be Aberdeen’s manager.

Felipe Rojas Alou, who is in his 15th year in the Orioles’ organization, will manage Delmarva. Alou had served as the director of the Orioles’ Dominican academy.

Matt Packer and Christian Frias will manage the two Orioles’ teams in the Florida Complex League. Elbis Morel and Chris Madera will become the Dominican Summer League team managers.

Britton’s coaches with Norfolk will be Justin Ramsey (pitching), Tim Gibbons (hitting), Ramón Sambo (fundamentals) and Joshua Rodrigues (development). Ramsey joined the Orioles in 2019 when he was at Delmarva and was worked with Britton at Norfolk last year. Gibbons and Sambo worked under former manager Gary Kendall with the Tides in 2021. Rodrigues joined the Orioles from Tampa Bay.

Bowie’s coaches will be Josh Conway (pitching), Branden Backer (hitting), Tim DeJohn (fundamentals) and Billy Facteau (development). Conway and Dej John were at Aberdeen last season, Backer was in the Florida Complex League, and Facteau was an intern for the Orioles in the technology department.

Forrest Herrmann (pitching), Zach Cole (hitting), Isaiah Paige (fundamentals) and Ryan Goll (development) will be the IronBirds’ coaches. Hermann was Cincinnati’s Low-A pitching coach last season, Cole was a development coach and a minor league technology, Paige was the pitching coach for Dallas College, and Goll was with Aberdeen.

Delmarva’s will be Joe Haumacher (pitching), Brink Ambler (hitting), Daniel Fajardo (fundamentals) and Collin Murray (development). Haumacher was in the Florida Complex League last year, Ambler was a minor league technology coordinator, Fajardo, a longtime Orioles farmhand, was a minor league technology coordinator in the Dominican Republic., and Murray comes from the Detroit Tigers organization. ‘

Florida Complex League coaches will Adam Bleday and Andy Sadoski (pitching), John Bunselmeyer and Jaylen Ferguson (hitting), Troy Marrow and Collin Woody (fundamentals) and Chase Sebby (development.) Ferguson played six seasons in the Orioles organization.

Longtime Orioles team translator Ramón Alarcón will be the coordinator of minor league operations, assisting director of development Matt Blood in his third season, and Kent Qualls, in his 10th season, as director of minor league operations.

Cody Asche, who played four seasons with Philadelphia and one with the Chicago White Sox, will be the upper-level hitting coordinator. Dave Schmidt, in his 25th season with the team, will returnsas the pitching and rehab coordinator in Sarasota.

In the scouting department, Brad Ciolek has been promoted to director of draft operations, and Maria Arellano will be senior manager of international administration.

Two new area scouts have been added — Dan Drullinger (Brenham, Texas) and Eric Robinson (Acworth, Georgia).
