Top prospect Adley Rutschman is joining the Orioles today

After two exciting wins featuring walk-off home runs, the Orioles decided that it was time to add catcher Adley Rutschman, the top prospect in the minors, to the mix.

The team announced Rutschman’s contract was purchased on Saturday morning, and he’ll wear No. 35.

Rutschman, 24, who was the overall No. 1 pick in the 2019 draft, did not play in Triple-A Norfolk’s game on Friday night in Charlotte after catching three consecutive games. He’ll be with the Orioles tonight when they play their second game of a three game series against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rutschman hit .309 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 19 games with Norfolk, Double-A Bowie and High-A Aberdeen in his rehab assignment after straining a right triceps muscle on March 11th, just before major league spring training began.

The team designated catcher Anthony Bemboom, who made a key tag at the plate in the 13th inning in Friday night’s game, for assignment.
