The Orioles optioned right-handed pitcher Mike Baumann to Triple-A Norfolk after Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The Orioles were carrying 14 pitchers on their roster and had to cut a pitcher to comply with the 13-pitcher limit that’s effective beginning on Monday.
Baumann, who pitched a scoreless inning in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Tampa Bay, is 1-2 with a 4.50 earned-run average in 11 games.
It’s Baumann’s third option this season. Teams are limited to five options per season.
Before Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, the Orioles will add a position player. Teams must have at least 13 position players between now and September 1st.
