Orioles promote DL Hall; Left-hander will start against Tampa Bay on Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida—DL Hall, one of the top pitching prospects in the minor leagues and the Orioles’ top draft choice in 2017, joined the Orioles on Friday for their series against Tampa Bay, an industry source confirmed. The news was first reported by MASNSports.com.

Manager Brandon Hyde said after Friday night’s 10-3 victory over the Rays that Hall will start Saturday night.

Hall, 23, who was ranked as the No. 52 prospect before this season by Baseball America, has had his progress held back by injuries and by the canceled 2020 minor league season.

In 2022, Hall’s first year in Triple-A, he is 2-6 with a 4.76 ERA. The left-hander has struck out 114 in 70 innings and walked 44.

Hall was not active for Friday night’s game.

“He’s joining us. He’s going to be in the traveling party and we’re going to get through tonight’s game and see where we are from there,” Hyde said before Friday night’s game. “It’s going to be playing tonight’s game and see where we are roster-wise.”

Hall pitched an inning in spring training and then remained in Sarasota until he reported to High-A Aberdeen and Double-A Bowie for a game for each affiliate.

“We saw DL for a brief time in spring training,” Hyde said. “Obviously, he’s a very special arm, and we’re excited for his future. We’ll see how tonight goes and go from there.”
