Orioles release 2023 schedule in which they’ll play every team; Right-hander Sanders claimed off waivers

BALTIMORE—The Orioles open their 2023 season with a familiar opponent, the Boston Red Sox, at Fenway Park on March 30th. They’ll close the season at Camden Yards against the Red Sox on October 1st. In between, there will be many changes as Major League Baseball adopts a new schedule in which each team will play every team for the first time.

The Orioles’ home opener is scheduled for April 6th against the New York Yankees. But instead of 19 games against their American League East opponents, they’ll play 13 against their American League East opponents New York, Boston, Tampa Bay and Toronto.

They’ll play a three-game series against 14 National League opponents and a pair of two-game series against the Washington Nationals.

The Orioles will play the New York Mets August 4th-6th at Camden Yards. It will be the first visit for former manager Buck Showalter since the end of the 2018 season.

Pittsburgh (May 12th-14th), Cincinnati (June 26th-28th), Miami (July 14th-16th), Los Angeles (July 17th-20th), Colorado (August 25th-27th), St. Louis (September 11th-13th) and Washington (September 26th and 27th) will visit Baltimore.

The Orioles will play at Washington (April 18th and 19th), Atlanta (May 5th-7th), San Francisco (June 2nd-4th), Milwaukee (June 6th-8th), Chicago (June 16th-18th), Philadelphia (July 24th-26th), San Diego (August 14th-16th) and Arizona (September 1st-3rd.)

The Orioles will be at home for Memorial Day, May 29th against Cleveland, but away for July 4th against the Yankees, and Labor Day, September 4th, at the Angels.

The Yankees will visit Baltimore April 6th, 8th and 9th and July 28th-30th. The Red Sox will be here April 24th-26th, and September 28th-30th.

Sanders added: The Orioles claimed right-handed pitcher Phoenix Sanders off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. The 25-year-old right-hander had a 3.07 ERA in eight games this season.

Sanders will not be available for Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Notes: Grayson Rodriguez threw a live batting practice in Sarasota. He’s continuing his rehab from a lat injury. … Travis Lakins, who’s rehabbing a right elbow injury, will pitch for Double-A Bowie on Wednesday.
