Jackson Holliday’s stay at Single-A Delmarva was a short one. After hitting .392 with a .523 on-base percentage and a 1.190 OPS, the 19-year-old shortstop, the overall No. 1 pick in last July’s draft, was promoted from the Shorebirds to High-A Aberdeen on Monday.

Holliday, who played just 20 professional games after he signed last year, was invited to Orioles spring training and played well in his extended stay, hitting .429 (6-for-14) in 16 Grapefruit League games.

Holliday played well in just 13 games at Delmarva, going 20-for-51 with 15 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, two home runs, 15 RBIs and three stolen bases. He walked 14 times and struck out 12 times.

Holliday committed one error in eight games at shortstop and none in five games at second.

Holliday’s first game for the IronBirds will be on Tuesday night when Aberdeen begins a six-game series at Wilmington. His first home game is scheduled for May 9th when the IronBirds play Hudson Valley.
