The Orioles recalled infielder Joey Ortiz from Triple-A Norfolk and optioned infielder/outfielder Terrin Vavra to the Tides after Wednesday’s game.
Ortiz, the Orioles’ fourth-round draft choice in 2019 who was slowed by a concussion last month during spring training, was hitting .359 with eight RBIs in 16 games for Norfolk.
He’s a right-handed hitter, and he’ll replace Vavra, a left-handed hitter on the roster.
Vavra was hitting .231 (6-for-26) in 15 games, and played second base, third base, left and right field this season. He did not have an extra base hit or an RBI.
Ortiz, who has not played in the major leagues, will wear No. 65.
