After going hitless in his last 21 at-bats and striking out in all four plate appearances on Sunday, the Orioles optioned outfielder Kyle Stowers to Triple-A Norfolk after their 4-0 loss to Pittsburgh. Stowers was just 2-for-30 (.067) in 14 games.
The Orioles hope that Stowers will return to Norfolk and find the skills that propelled him to the major leagues last August. In 34 games in 2022, Stowers hit .253 with three home runs and 11 RBIs. He was a second-r0und draft pick of the Orioles in 2019.
Right-hander Logan Gillaspie, who began the season with the Orioles, was recalled. Gillaspie was 0-1 with a 7.20 ERA in eight games before he was optioned to the Tides last month. With Norfolk, Gillaspie was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a save in seven games.
The Orioles had 12 pitchers on their roster for Sunday’s game, and now they’ll return to 13.
