Orioles recall Cole Irvin from Norfolk, option Gillaspie

After Cole Irvin’s third consecutive disappointing start, the Orioles optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk on April 13th, With the team in need of bullpen length after Grayson Rodriguez’s 3 1/3-inning start on Monday night, the Orioles have recalled Irvin from the Tides.

Irvin, who was obtained from Oakland on January 26th, was 0-2 with a 10.66 ERA in three starts. With Norfolk, he was 4-1 with a 3.19 ERA.

His first 16 major league appearances for Philadelphia in 2019 and 2020 were in relief.

Logan Gillaspie, who allowed a run on four hits in 1 1/3 innings on Monday night, hours after he was recalled from Norfolk, has been optioned back to the Tides. He has a 6.75 ERA in nine games for the Orioles.
