The Oakland Athletics traded right-hander Shintaro Fujinami to the Orioles for left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas.
Fujinami, who is 29, is 5-8 with an 8.57 earned-run average in 34 games with Oakland in his first year since coming to the U.S. from Japan. He has started seven times and has struck out 51 and walked 30 in 49 1/3 innings.
Over the last 30 days, he has a 1.46 ERA and 0.57 WHIP.
Lucas, who was acquired from Miami in December 2019 in a trade for Jonathan Villar, is 1-0 with a 2.73 ERA in 20 games with Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.
To make room for Fujinami on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated utilityman Josh Lester for assignment. Lester hit .182 with four RBIs in 11 games last month.
