Outfielder Aaron Hicks’ return from the 10-day injured list lasted just eight innings. After missing 20 days because of a back injury and playing just one game in San Diego, the Orioles returned Hicks to the injured list on Saturday with a low back strain. The move is retroactive to   Wednesday.

Hicks went 2-for-3 at San Diego on Monday and left the game in the eighth inning. In 43 games with he Orioles, Hicks is hitting .261 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. The Orioles signed Hicks to replace injured centerfielder Cedric Mullins on the active roster on May 30th, four days after Hicks was released by the New York Yankees.

Outfielder Ryan McKenna, who was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on August 10th when Mullins returned, has been recalled to replace Hicks on the active roster. Mullins had been on the injured list for the second time because of a right adductor/groin strain.

McKenna is hitting .248 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 73 games with the Orioles.

The Orioles also placed right-handed relief pitcher Mychal Givens on unconditional release waivers.
