The Orioles acquired right-handed pitcher Jonathan Heasley from the Kansas City Royals on Monday night in exchange for minor league right-hander Cesar Espinal.

Heasley, 26, was 5-11 with a 5.45 earned-run average in three seasons with the Royals. He made 36 appearances, 24 starts.

Heasley’s only game against the Orioles was perhaps his best as a major leaguer. He allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings on June 10th, 2022 at Kauffman Stadium, striking out seven without walking a batter.

The 18-year-old Espinal was 4-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 20 games in the past two seasons in the Orioles’ Dominican Summer League.

Heasley’s addition means the Orioles have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
