One day after announcing the sale of the team, the Orioles acquired the starting pitcher they’d be searching for all winter.

The Milwaukee Brewers sent right-hander Corbin Burnes to the Orioles for left-handed pitcher DL Hall, infielder Joey Ortiz and the Orioles’ pick in the Competitive Balance Round A, the 34th overall pick.

The 29-year-old Burnes, who won the National League Cy Young Award in 2021 and is eligible to be a free agent after this season, was 10-8 with a 3.39 earned-run average in 32 starts for the Brewers last season. In six seasons, Burnes was 45-27 with a 3.26 ERA.

He’ll join Kyle Bradish, Dean Kremer, John Means, Grayson Rodriguez and perhaps Tyler Wells in the Orioles’ starting rotation.

Hall was the Orioles’ top pick in the 2017 draft, and he struggled with injuries throughout his career. The 25-year-old left-hander was 4-1 with a 4.36 ERA and a save in 29 games over the last two seasons.

Ortiz was the Orioles’ fourth-round pick in the 2019 draft and hoped to make the team as a utility infielder. He hit .212 with four RBIs in 15 games in 2023, his first action in the major leagues.
