The Orioles acquired utilityman Nick Maton from the Detroit Tigers for cash considerations on Wednesday night.

Maton, who had been designated for assignment from Detroit earlier this week, hit .208 in 173 games with Philadelphia and the Tigers in the past three seasons.

Last season, the 26-year-old Maton hit .173 with eight home runs and 32 RBIs in 93 games with Detroit.

Maton has played second base, shortstop and third base and has a handful of starts in left and right field and has even pitched three times.

He’s the brother of free agent right-handed pitcher Phil Maton.

The Orioles now have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
