BALTIMORE—On a miserable night, the Orioles’ bats were frigid. Gametime temperature was 52 degrees, and with it drizzling for most of the game, the announced crowd of 9,404 at Oriole Park found little to be entertained by.

The Orioles (3-2) had just three hits. In both their losses, they’ve been limited to three hits.

Cole Irvin (0-1) started and allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings as the Orioles lost to the Kansas City Royals, 4-1, on Tuesday night.

Kansas City (2-3) jumped to a 3-0 lead in the second on Nick Loftin’s RBI single and Maikel Garcia’s two-run double.

The Orioles’ only run came in the third on back-to-back doubles by Jordan Westburg and Colton Cowser, who started his first game of the season.

Alec Marsh (1-0) baffled the Orioles for seven innings, the longest of his major league career. He struck out five and walked one, throwing 76 pitches.

Garcia’s triple in the fourth scored Loftin, and the Royals led, 4-1.

Cowser singled with one out in the eighth against Kansas City reliever John Schrieber.

Will Smith pitched a spotless ninth for his first save.
