BOSTON-Orioles rookie second baseman Jackson Holliday struck out in his first major league at-bat. Holliday, batting ninth, didn’t hit until the third inning, and he struck out swinging on a 2-2 pitch by Boston Red Sox right-hander Kutter Crawford.
Holliday turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the top of second inning as his first chance.
He misplayed a shallow fly ball to right-center in the bottom of the third, waving off charging outfielders Anthony Santander and Cedric Mullins and then letting the ball drop in, leading to the first run for the Red Sox.
