The Orioles placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 21st, because of a strained left calf muscle. Hays suffered the injury in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game against Kansas City.
Hays is hitting .111 (5-for-45) with four RBIs.
The Orioles selected the contract of catcher David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Hays on the 26-man roster. Bañuelos made his major league debut last Tuesday and was hitless in his only at-bat. He was outrighted to Norfolk to make room for Monday’s starter, Albert Suárez
To make room for Bañuelos on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder Peyton Burdick for assignment.
Notes: First baseman Ryan Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels because of knee soreness, manager Brandon Hyde told reporters in Anaheim, California.
