Hays goes on injured list with strained left calf; Orioles add Bañuelos; Mountcastle out with knee soreness

The Orioles placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to April 21st, because of a strained left calf muscle. Hays suffered the injury in the seventh inning of Saturday’s game against Kansas City.

Hays is hitting .111 (5-for-45) with four RBIs.

The Orioles selected the contract of catcher David Bañuelos from Triple-A Norfolk to replace Hays on the 26-man roster. Bañuelos made his major league debut last Tuesday and was hitless in his only at-bat. He was outrighted to Norfolk to make room for Monday’s starter, Albert Suárez

To make room for Bañuelos on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated outfielder Peyton Burdick for assignment.

Notes: First baseman Ryan Mountcastle is out of the lineup for Monday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels because of knee soreness, manager Brandon Hyde told reporters in Anaheim, California. Ramón Urías is starting instead. … Delmarva right-hander Trey Gibson was named Carolina League Pitcher of the Week.
