Nick Markakis, the durable outfielder who won two Gold Glove awards in his nine seasons with the Orioles, and Terry Crowley, a hitting coach and excellent pinch-hitter, have been elected to the Orioles’ Hall of Fame. Longtime scout Dick Bowie was named his year’s Herb Armstrong Award winner.

Markakis is seventh on the team’s all-time hit list with 1,547, and is among the leaders in doubles, extra-base hits, runs and RBIs. He played for the Orioles from 2006-2014 and was named Most Valuable Oriole in 2007. Markakis was the seventh overall pick in the 2003 draft.

Crowley, who was the first designated hitter in Orioles’ history on April 6th, 1973, played 12 seasons with the Orioles and spent 16 seasons as the team’s hitting coach from 1985-1989 and from 1999-2010. His 16 seasons as an Orioles coach are the second most in team history.

Bowie joined the Orioles as associate scout in 1958, was made a full-time scout in 1968 and was Mid-Atlantic Supervisor from 1978 until his August 1981 death. He recommended the Orioles sign Cal Ripken Jr.

The new members of the Orioles’ Hall of Fame will be recognized on August 23rd at a luncheon organized by the Oriole Advocates and will be inducted in the Hall of Fame before the August 24th game against Houston.
