WASHINGTON —Orioles outfielder Austin Hays is set to begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Bowie on Tuesday night. Hays, who’s been on the 10-day injured list with a strained left calf muscle, is set to play five innings for the Baysox when they face Akron at Prince George’s Stadium, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said.
“I think we’d like to get him some at-bats,” Hyde said. “He’ll have a little lower workload tomorrow, build him. I’d like to see him get as many at-bats as possible. I’m not sure how long it’s going to be, but it shouldn’t be too long.”
Hays was hitting just .111 (5-for-45) with two RBIs when he was hurt.

“In rehab at-bats, it’s kind of tough,” Hyde said. “He hasn’t faced live pitching in a while. It’s more about the calf and feeling healthy, seeing live pitching and hopefully he can come back ready to go for us.”
