Midday Mailbag: How strong are Orioles’ starting pitchers?

Every weekday, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.

Question: The Orioles’ starting rotation is so strong now. Who do you think is its weakest link? From: Heidi Tennyson Bertaux

Answer: Heidi, I don’t think the Orioles currently have a weak link among their starters. Corbin Burnes, who will start Tuesday night against the Nationals, Kyle Bradish, Cole Irvin, John Means and Dean Kremer have all delivered excellent starts recently, and with Grayson Rodriguez on the injured list, but perhaps not for long, the starting pitching looks like a strength.

Question: The Orioles waited until Thursday to announce that Kyle Bradish would start that afternoon against the Yankees. Is there a rule about how much advance notice a team must give about a starting pitcher? Is there an understanding/unwritten rule among managers about advance notice? From: Aaron Greenfield

Answer: Aaron, I think the Yankees and everyone else knew that Bradish was going to start on Thursday. Since a player would have to be dropped to make room for Bradish, they waited that long to announce it. Teams generally let their opponent know who their starters will be in advance of the series.
