Midday Mailbag: What’s the Orioles’ record with City Connect uniforms?

SCROLL DOWN TO READ ARTICLE

Every weekday, I’ll be answering at least one Orioles question. If you’d like to submit a question, send it to: Rich@BaltimoreBaseball.com. Questions may be edited for clarity, length and style.

Question: I was at Tuesday night’s shutout loss to the Nats. It seems like the O’s don’t have much success when wearing those City Connect uniforms. Can you piece together their won/loss record in such games? Perhaps a breakdown of last year vs. this year? From: Ray Keaney

Answer: Ray, that’s a very popular question around here. I’ve received similar questions from Thomas Boller, Steven Clarke and Doug Tomlinson, all of whom don’t much like the City Connect uniforms.

The Orioles are 5-9 wearing them. They’re 0-3 this year and were 5-6 last year. The Orioles has announced they’ll be wearing them each Friday home game this season.

Question: How does Adley Rutschman compare with other catchers throwing runners out stealing over last season and this season?  I saw him get run all over in the first game against the Nationals this year. I know with the newer pitching rules, pizza boxes for bases, and oven mitts on runner’s hands, it’s a harder task for them. From: Kevin Chaney

Answer: Kevin, a similar question was asked by Larry Curcio. Rutschman has thrown out five of 23 runners attempting to steal (22 percent), which was exactly league average entering Wednesday’s games. James McCann has thrown out two of nine runners (22 percent).
