BALTIMORE—Jordan Westburg punched the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th inning into right field, scoring Colton Cowser, and the Orioles had another comeback win, 5-4, before 27,882 at Camden Yards on Saturday.
Cowser was the automatic runner to begin the 11th against Bryce Jarvis (0-2), and Westburg delievered his fourth hit of the game.
Craig Kimbrel (4-1) pitched a scoreless 11th, hitting Christian Walker, and recovering to strike out Jake McCarthy and get Eugenio Suárez to hit into a force play.
The Orioles (26-12) scored against Arizona starter Ryne Nelson in the second on doubles by Ryan Mountcastle and Westburg.
Arizona (18-22) took a 2-1 lead against Oriole starter John Means in the third when Kevin Newman tripled with two outs and Starling Marte hit his ninth home run.
The Orioles scored just one run on four hits in the third, tying the game on Ryan O’Hearn’s single that scored Jorge Mateo. Mountcastle hit his second double, sending O’Hearn to third, but both were left there when Anthony Santander grounded to short.
Cowser and Westburg began the fourth with singles, and with Cowser on third, Heston Kjerstad grounded to first, and Cowser was tagged out in a rundown between third and home.
In the top of the fifth, Kjerstad made a diving catch on Gabriel Moreno’s drive to left, and after the Diamondbacks loaded the bases, Corbin Carroll’s sacrifice fly scored Blaze Alexander. Lourdes Gurriel’s single brought in Newman, and the Orioles trailed, 4-2.
Means allowed four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings, striking out three.
Gunnar Henderson hit his 12th home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth. His 12 homers tie him for the major league lead with Houston’s Kyle Tucker and Atlanta’s Marcell Ozuna.
Mountcastle tripled with two outs, and Nelson left the game, one out short of a win. Santander grounded out to second, ending the fifth.
Mike Baumann relieved Means and gave up a hit in 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
The Orioles did nothing against Arizona’s bullpen until the eighth. Ryan Thompson and Joe Mantiply going hitless in seven at-bats. Kevin Ginkel retired the first two Orioles in the eighth before Santander hit his seventh home run to tie the score at 4-4.
Yennier Cano pitched a scoreless ninth and Danny Coulombe a spotless 10th.
