Orioles reinstate Rodriguez but designate Baumann for assignment

The Orioles reinstated right-hander Grayson Rodriguez from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday’s game against Seattle, but might be losing hard-throwing reliever Mike Baumann in the process.

Rodriguez had been on the injured list since May 1st because of inflammation of the right shoulder. He’s 4-1 with a 3.67 earned-run average in six starts.

Baumann was designated for assignment, which means he’d have to clear waivers for the Orioles to be able to keep him. That’s unlikely for a pitcher who throws 98 miles per hour. The 28-year-old Baumann was 1-0 with a 3.44 ERA in 17 games. He pitched a scoreless inning in Friday’s 9-2 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

The Orioles have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
