Orioles move Means to injured list with strained left forearm, recall Heasley

CHICAGO-One day after leaving Wednesday’s game after three innings, the Orioles placed left-hander John Means on the 15-day injured list with a left forearm strain. The 31-year-old, who had Tommy John surgery in April 2022, was making just his eighth start since the surgery, and the fourth of this season.

Means started four times last September but was not included on the Orioles’ roster for the Division Series with Texas and was held back this spring because the team wanted to be cautious with him.

He pitched three scoreless on Wednesday against the St. Louis Cardinals and has a 2-1 record and 2.61 earned-run average in his four starts.

The Orioles recalled right-hander Jonathan Heasley from Triple-A Norfolk. Heasley was 0-1 with a 12.46 ERA in three games with the Orioles last month. In seven games with Norfolk, Heasley had an 0.45 ERA, allowing just one run in 20 innings.

Heasley threw five scoreless innings, allowing two hits, on Sunday at Lehigh Valley. The Orioles could have kept left-hander Nick Vespi, who was the 27th man for Wednesday’s game in St. Louis, but Vespi threw an inning.
