CHICAGO—The Orioles acquired right-handed pitcher Thyago Vieira and minor league right-hander Aneuris Rodriguez from the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday in exchange for minor league right-hander Garrett Stallings.
Vieira had a 5.64 ERA in 16 games with the Brewers before he was designated for assignment on May 20th. He’s 2-2 with a 6.18 ERA and one save in 41 games with Seattle, the White Sox and Milwaukee in five seasons. The 31-year pitched in Japan from 2020-2022.
He’s one of five Brazilians to play in the major leagues and will be the first to play for the Orioles.
Rodriguez, who’s 19, has a 3.86 ERA in 3 games for the Arizona Complex League Brewers. He’s struck out 15 in 7 1/3 innings.
Stallings, who has a non-roster invite to spring training in 2023 and 2024 came to the Orioles along with pitcher Jean Pintoin December 2020 from the Los Angeles Angels in a trade for shortstop Jose Iglesias. He was 0-1 with a 5.67 ERA in 11 games for Triple-A Norfolk this season.
Vieira was placed on the Orioles’ 40-man roster, which is now full, but has yet to report. Rodriguez will be assigned to the Florida Complex League Orioles.
