BALTIMORE—The Orioles displayed a complete offense on Memorial Day, scoring 11 runs and getting a contribution from each starter.
Kyle Stowers had three hits and drove in four runs, Ryan Mountcastle had three hits, and Jorge Mateo and Cedric Mullins showed off their speed in the Orioles’ 11-3 win over the Boston Red Sox before 40,951 at Camden Yards on Monday.
It was the Orioles’ fifth straight win, their longest of the season. They swept the Chicago White Sox in four straight, and at 34-18, they’re 16 games over .500 for the first time.
Cole Irvin (5-2) returned from the bullpen after injuries to Dean Kremer and John Means and started for the first time since May 10th, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out six.
The Orioles scored single runs in the second and third. In the third, Mateo doubled, moved to third on an infield out and, flashing his speed, scored from third on a fly to shallow center by Adley Rutschman.
They added five runs in the fourth against Cooper Criswell (2-2) on a two-run double by Stowers, a two-run triple by Mullins and a sacrifice fly by Mateo.
The Orioles increased their lead to 11-0 in the seventh on an RBI double by Rutschman, a run-scoring single by Mountcastle and a two-run single by Stowers.
The only sour note was the debut of Thyago Vieira, a reliever the Orioles traded for from Milwaukee on Saturday. He allowed three eighth-inning runs without retiring a batter, walking four, throwing a wild pitch and giving up a three-run triple to Romy Gonzalez.
