Voting for the July 16th All-Star Game in Arlington, Texas is underway, and there are nine Orioles, one for each position, on the ballot.
Catcher Adley Rutschman, first baseman Ryan Mountcastle, second baseman Jorge Mateo, shortstop Gunnar Henderson, third baseman Jordan Westburg, outfielders Colton Cowser, Cedric Mullins and Anthony Santander and designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn are the Orioles’ nominees.
Rutschman, who was a reserve last year, and Mullins, the starter for the American League in center field in 2021, return to the ballot. Austin Hays, who started for the AL in center field in the 2023 game in Seattle, is not on the ballot.
Henderson, who is expected to be named to the All-Star team, has the toughest competition with Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr., Texas’ Corey Seagar andNew York’s Anthony Volpe also strong candidates.
While Rutschman is also expected to be named, the Royals’ Salvador Perez is having another strong season.
Mountcastle and Westburg have good cases, but Cleveland’s Josh Naylor and Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first and the Guardians’ José Ramírez, Tampa Bay’s Isaac Parades and Boston’s Rafael Devers are potential choices, too.
Pitchers and reserves will be selected by the players and the commissioner’s office.
Fans can vote at MLB.com/Vote, the MLB and MLB Ballpark Apps and the 30 team websites. Between now and June 27th at noon, fans can vote up to five times per day.
On June 27th, the top two vote-getters at each position will be named at 6 p.m. on MLB Network, and fans can vote between noon on June 30th and noon on July 3rd. Starters will be announced on ESPN at 7 p.m., and the full team will be announced on July 7th at 5:30 p.m.
