The Orioles recalled outfielder/designated hitter Heston Kjerstad from Triple-A Norfolk on Monday before starting a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians.
Kjerstad, who hit .143 (2-for-14) in seven games earlier this season, was hitting .300 with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs with a .998 OPS for Norfolk. Last season, Kjerstad hit .233 with two home runs and three RBIs in 13 games.
To make room for Kjerstad on the 26-man roster, the Orioles designated Nick Maton for assignment. Maton’s contract was purchased last Wednesday from Norfolk after infielder Jordan Westburg collided with New York’s Juan Soto and had hip discomfort. Another left-handed hitting outfielder, Kyle Stowers, was optioned to Norfolk.

Maton played in the final two innings of the Orioles’ 17-5 win over the Yankees on Thursday but did not have a plate appearance.
The Orioles have 39 players on their 40-man roster.
