Orioles sign Garrett Cooper to minor league contract

The Orioles signed first baseman/outfielder Garrett Cooper to a minor league contract on Tuesday. The 33-year-old Cooper, a right-handed hitter was released by Boston on June 14th.

Cooper hit .171 with five RBIs in 24 games with the Red Sox after beginning the season with the Chicago Cubs, where he hit .270 with a homer and six RBIs in 12 games. The Cubs sold his contract to Boston on April 27th.

His longest stint in the majors was with Miami, where he was a National League All-Star in 2022. Cooper hit .269 from 2018-2023. Cooper began his major league career with 13 games with the New York Yankees in 2017 and was traded from the Marlins to San Diego in August 2023.

Cooper has played most often at first base and has started 73 games in right field and three in left.
