Orioles activate Kremer to start Wednesday night’s game; Vespi optioned

The Orioles activated Dean Kremer from the 15-day injured list to start Wednesday night’s game at the Seattle Mariners. Kremer has been on the injured list with a strained right triceps since May 21st when he allowed five runs on six hits in four innings at St. Louis.

Kremer had three rehab starts for Triple-A Norfolk and had an 11.42 ERA in 8 2/3 innings.

In 2024, Kremer is 3-4 with a 4.32 ERA in nine starts.

To make room for Kremer, the Orioles optioned left-hander Nick Vespi to Norfolk. Vespi had a 3.18 ERA in 10 games with the Orioles.

Manager Brandon Hyde will be asked about his plans for the rotation when he meets with the media later today in Seattle. Corbin Burnes will start Thursday’s game, and it’s likely that one of the other starters, perhaps Cole Irvin, who’s struggled in his most recent three starts, could be moved to the bullpen.

Left-hander Cade Povich is 1-2 with a 4.05 ERA in five starts since his recall from Norfolk while Irvin has allowed 14 earned runs on 20 hits in 12 1/3 innings (10.22 ERA) in his last three starts. Irvin does not have an option remaining.
