The Orioles selected the contract of right-hander Chayce McDermott, who will start Wednesday night’s game against Miami. McDermott who was 3-5 with a 3.96 earned-run average in 20 games, 19 starts, for Triple-A Norfolk, will be making his major league debut. In 91 innings, McDermott struck out 129 and walked 54.
To make room for McDermott on the 26-man roster, the Orioles optioned right-hander Bryan Baker Norfolk after Tuesday night’s game. Baker pitched a perfect inning in the 6-3 loss to Miami. He was 1-1 with a 4.32 ERA in 12 games.
In order to fit McDermott on the 40-man roster, the Orioles designated right-hander Jonathan Heasley for assignment. Heasley was 0-1 with a 16.88 ERA in four games with the Orioles and is currently on the minor league injured list.
