CLEVELAND–The Orioles are calling up third baseman Coby Mayo, the 15th-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. Mayo was removed from Triple-A Norfolk’s 18-10 win at Charlotte Thursday night after he had four hits.
The 22-year-old Mayo, who was selected in the fourth round of the 2020 Major League Baseball draft, is hitting .308 with a 1.003 OPS, 23 home runs and 67 RBIs.
News of Mayo’s recall was first reported by MASNsports.com and confirmed by multiple industry sources.
Mayo’s stats were extremely impressive in light of his missing a month with a fractured rib after he collided with a dugout in a game at Lehigh Valley.
After Jordan Westburg was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured right hand, the Orioles recalled utility infielder Liván Soto from Norfolk.
