The Orioles signed veteran third baseman J.D. Davis to a minor league contract on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Davis, who was selected by Houston in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft when Orioles executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias was running the draft, was released by the New York Yankees on Friday.
Davis hit just .105 (2-for-19) with an RBI in seven games with the Yankees. Earlier in the season, Davis hit .236 with four home runs and five RBIs in 39 games with Oakland.
In eight seasons with Houston, San Francisco, Oakland, the Yankees and Mets, Davis has a .257 average and a .764 OPS.
His best season came in 2019 when he hit 22 homers, drove in 57 runs and hit .307 with an .895 OPS.
Davis, who also has played left field and first base, provides minor league infield depth.
